Single implant (Anterior- healing cap)
A dental implant is a highly effective solution for replacing a missing front tooth. By replacing both the visible portion of the tooth and its root, a dental implant helps restore natural appearance, function, and long-term oral health.
Replacing a missing tooth with an implant also helps prevent complications that may occur when a tooth is left untreated, such as shifting teeth or bone loss in the jaw.
Preparing the implant site
The first step in the dental implant process is preparing the area where the implant will be placed. Your dentist carefully prepares the bone to create a stable site for the implant.
Proper preparation allows the implant to integrate securely with the surrounding bone.
Placing the implant and healing cap
After the site is prepared, the dental implant body is placed into the jawbone. A small component called a healing cap is attached to the implant.
The healing cap protects the implant while the surrounding bone and gum tissue heal. During this time, the implant gradually bonds with the bone in a process known as osseointegration.
Healing and temporary tooth options
During the healing phase, your dentist will monitor the implant to ensure the area is healing properly.
In many cases, a temporary tooth may be provided to maintain the appearance of your smile while the implant site heals.
Placing the abutment
Once healing is complete and the implant has fully integrated with the bone, the healing cap is removed. An abutment is then attached to the implant.
The abutment acts as the connector between the implant and the final dental crown.
Completing the implant restoration
The final step is placing a custom dental crown on top of the abutment. The crown is designed to match the shape, color, and appearance of your natural teeth.
Once the crown is secured, the implant restoration is complete and your tooth is restored to normal appearance and function.
