Single dental crown

A dental crown is used to restore a tooth that has been weakened, damaged, or worn down. When a tooth’s structure is compromised, a crown rebuilds it to restore its natural shape, appearance, and function.

Crowns are commonly used to protect teeth that have large fillings, fractures, discoloration, or significant wear. They can also be used to restore dental implants by acting as the visible replacement tooth. Handout-Single-Crown

When a dental crown is recommended

A crown may be recommended when a tooth no longer has enough healthy structure to function properly on its own. By covering and protecting the remaining tooth, the crown helps restore strength and stability.

Crowns can also improve the appearance of teeth that are misshapen or severely discolored.

Designing your custom crown

During your first appointment, your dentist captures a detailed digital image of your teeth using an intraoral scanner. This digital model allows the dentist to design a crown that fits precisely with your natural bite and surrounding teeth.

The digital images and design information are then sent to a dental laboratory where a skilled technician fabricates the custom crown.

Preparing the tooth

Once the crown design process has begun, the tooth is gently prepared to create space for the new restoration. A numbing agent is used to keep the procedure comfortable while the tooth is shaped to fit the crown.

A temporary crown is placed over the prepared tooth to protect it while the final crown is being created.

Placing the final crown

When the custom crown is ready, the temporary crown is removed and the final restoration is carefully fitted and adjusted. Once the fit and bite are confirmed, the crown is securely bonded in place.

Dental crowns are a common and reliable treatment that can protect teeth for many years while restoring both function and appearance.
